Ligotti’s first book of non-fiction may be more horrifying than his dark and depressing supernatural stuff. In a nutshell, Ligotti believes humans suck, religion is a transparent fantasy, optimism an exercise in delusional wish-fullfillment and the quest for pleasure is a doomed enterprise. He might be right, but I’m not at all sure I want to read the arguments he presents - in case I come to the same conclusions. He’s not a glass-half-full philosopher, he’s more of a there-is-no-glass, no water and no need to look for either or even to imagine that they exist. #43998
