Mike Dirda reads a lot. Writes too. He’s written a ton of reviews and I’ve read a great many of them. This isn’t a collection of reviews, it’s the story of how comics and poetry and science fiction and great literature and not-so-great literature can change a person’s life. Specifically, Dirda’s life. Dirda is a Pulitzer Prize-winning literary journalist and arguably the best in the business. Here he recalls teachers, friends, writers and fictional characters - all have impacted on his life. It’s his story and probably a story that shares a great many similarities with most anyone who loves books and loves to read. This one is currently quite near the tottering apex of that stack of books on the table next to my own favorite reading chair. Recommended. #25858
