Alford, HenryWould It Kill You to Stop Doing That: A Modern Guide to MannersTwelve:New York: 2012 First edition, Hardcover, New in dust jacket, 242 pp Cover artwork by: Kelly Blair I heard this guy on NPR. He impressed me. He was talking about this book and contemporary courtesies and manners - or the lack of same. He’s incredibly articulate, funny as can be, and, in my view anyway, right on the money in terms of his assessment of how contemporary culture relates to courtesies and how those courtesies have evolved over the last several hundred years. This book is great fun. very illuminating and full of ideas that might help a person cope with a society that. . . just doesn’t give a gerbil about affording folks the most basic gestures in terms of manners. A self-help book that may well help you as well as your fellow humans. Can we bring back the tip of a hat to an unescorted lady, please? Thank you. #47580
